Welcome to Reid School

Quality, Innovative, and Caring

The Reid School is the first private school to be totally dedicated to the use of the Exemplary Center for Reading Instruction (ECRI) instructional methods.  These methods were validated by a panel of evaluators at the U.S. Department of Education as significantly superior to other reading and language arts programs throughout the United States.

Unique features of the Reid School include a focus on outstanding academic achievement for all students, the development of individual talents, and the building of students’ self-esteem.

The Reid School provides instruction simultaneously in reading, oral language, spelling, comprehension, study skills and writing. Literature, mathematics, science, social studies, fine arts, and language instruction are integrated.

Reid School teaches students to use time wisely. It provides instruction that guarantees success.  Every child learns.

Reid School’s strength lies in:

  1. The specific ECRI teaching techniques used by its teachers;
  2. A hands-on approach in teaching the content subjects of mathematics, science, health, and social studies;
  3. An emphasis on comprehension and study skills in reading and writing;
  4. Specialists working in literature, fine arts, instrumental and vocal music, crafts, physical fitness, computer/technology, single camera television production and broadcasting, foreign languages, and more;
  5. A scheduling and record keeping system that allows individualization with teacher direction;
  6. Mastery of 100% by the students in the basic subjects;
  7. Flexibility and reinforcement that motivate students to work above grade level;
  8. Diversifying instruction – teaching students at their instructional levels – neither too difficult nor too easy;
  9. Frequent field experiences; and
  10. Involvement of parents.
