Student Life

Shakespeare Festival

All students are in the Festival events in March.  Middle School students not in the play rehearsals participate in science and special music classes.


Mathematics Competitions

State and National Mathematics Contests and Math Counts (state-wide competition events) keep math students and Mrs. Barlow and Ms. Openshaw busy!

Chess Club members compete in a tournament.  

Chess Club

Chess instruction twice-a-week and annual competitions for all grade levels.  Mondays and Wednesdays, 7:30 a.m.  Sponsored by Mr. Gardner Reid.


Volleyball and Lacrosse

Co-Ed Volleyball and Girl Lacrosse teams compete with other teams in Salt Lake Coun­ty.  Sponsored by Miss Taylor, P.E. teach­er, and parent groups.

Roots and Shoots

Influence positive change for communities, animals and the environment, and connect with students in almost 100 countries.  Meet twice a month after school.  Sponsored by Mrs. Pauld­ing, Mrs. Sossenheimer, and Mrs. Witmer.


Geography Bee

Study the geography of the world.  School, State, and National Competitions.  Grades 4 and up.  Sponsored by Miss Israelsen.

Foundation for Literary Arts

School-sponsored Poetry and Short Story com­pe­ti­tions for students.  Cash and cer­tif­i­cate awards.

Penmanship and Poetry Contests

Students compete in school, state, and na­tion­al poetry and penmanship contests.  Spon­sored by all Reading/English teachers.


Poetry Recitation Competitions

September and October memorizations are judged by a panel of recognized drama and literary specialists.

Mini-mini Olympics

Mini-mini Olympics in September bring teams of one student from each grade level in games of fun.


Mock Trial

Experience the roles of attorney, witness or bailiff as you contest both sides of a court case against other participating schools.  Twice a week after school with attorney coach, Ed Brass, and Miss Israelsen.

“Get-togethers”

September Parent and Student Get-to­geth­ers welcome newcomers, form bonds of friend­ship, and develop plans for the year.


National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)

A select group of excellent Middle School students as they participate in discovery field experiences, service and social opportunities.  Wednesdays at lunch.  Advisor, Mrs. Barlow.

Students dress up in costume for the Halloween Carnival and Parade.

Annual evening dinner, booths, spoof alley and more.  Parents, students, staff, and alum­ni make the event outstanding.

“Parade” in the Auditorium for Elementary students; preschoolers parade in the class­rooms; Middle School students enjoy partying at Fat Cats.

Thanksgiving Feast

Students in reading/English, as they learn to follow written directions, contribute one food item for the school’s feast.  Preschoolers re-en­act the first Thanksgiving.


School Programs

Programs of instrumental and vocal music (all students participate) celebrate the Winter and Spring seasons, Veteran’s Day and the Fine Arts Fair.

Valentine’s Day

Valentine parties for Preschoolers and El­e­men­ta­ry students.  Middle Schoolers are served an “elegant” lunch following lessons on etiquette and learn some new dance steps.


Fine Arts Fair

Last school day in February four or five pieces of art for each student are displayed; “Best of Show” winner honored; gallery walk for parents and visitors; Fine Arts Anthology dis­trib­uted; poetry and short story winners announced.
